Previous Expeditions

For most pupils the expeditions are the most memorable parts of the award. Training takes place in the Chilterns (Buckinghamshire) and the Mendip Hills (Somerset) and pupils learn basic skills of navigation, campcraft and first aid. This gives preparation for backpacking expeditions which take place in the Summer or Autumn terms in the Mendip Hills (Somerset) and the Lake District (Cumbria). The expeditions and training are supervised by experienced staff. Some of Adeyfield's previous expeditions can be viewed below.

Lakes 2009

Three groups of Adeyfield 6th form students working towards their Duke of Edinburgh Gold Awards spent a week in the Lake District during July 2009. The 15 students, (9 boys and 6 girls), became the first Adeyfield pupils to successfully complete the Gold expedition section. Read more...

Lakes 2010

It was a warm, sunny Sunday morning in Hemel Hempstead on the 4th of July when the Adeyfield DoE group met to head north in the school minibuses. The purpose of the journey was a week away on the school's flagship DoE expedition to the Lake District. This year the expedition involved some training days and an opportunity for a group to complete their gold expedition section and for another group to complete their bronze expedition section. Somerset April 2010

31 students and 5 staff took part in Adeyfield School's largest ever DoE expedition in Somerset at the end of last week. For most of the students in year 10 and 11 this was an opportunity to complete their expedition sections. Congratulations to all of the students. Somerset October 2010

It was quite a rush to get everyone ready for this, the last, DoE expedition of 2010. On Thursday 7th October 2010 we climbed aboard the school minibuses and headed to the Mendip Hills in Somerset. With us were some students completing their Bronze Award and some students learning the ropes for the first time on a Gold practice. Read more...
